America

America, a male Bald Eagle, was brought from Alaska to Tennessee in 1988 as part of an eagle repopulation program that Tennessee started in 1980. He was released at Dale Hollow Lake, Tennessee when he was 12 weeks old. He flew to Michigan where he was shot.

After rehabilitation, he was returned to Tennessee and released at Reelfoot Lake. He did not do very well and was recaptured after three days. His wing injury had not healed enough for him to survive in the wild. America is an important part of our nationwide educational program.
